The Sumer Arabic Music Group in Sweden has a unique feature that its lead female vocalists are Scandinavian artists, who do not understand or speak Arabic and yet they have worked very hard with Sumer group leader and Arabic music teacher Talal Ismail to achieve an amazing level of proficiency in delivering Arabic songs originating from various Arabic countries with accurate articulation and musical phrasing. Here we present Marianne Holmboe of Norway to sing an Iraqi folk song about motherhood. It is common in the Arab culture to cry 'Ya Youm' or 'Ya Yumma' ('Oh mother!) in the face of any calamity that one is faced with. 'Mother' being the pillar of strength and love that any child will run to for shelter and comfort. The song expresses the sadness of someone who has lost her mother. This is the latest Video with Anna Ottertun singing the Popular Iraqi song 'Hiragtilrouh' or 'My soul is burnt'.The lyrics speak of pain and sorrow one feels when parting away from loved ones. To Iraqi people such sadness is even deeper when they have to say farewell not only to their loved ones but to their homeland and seek refuge in other lands as has been happening to them for over a decade now.
