Today monday 10 November 2008 we mourn the death of Miriam Makeba. Hamba Kahle Mama Africa! I was fortunate and very privileged to have had a chance to see her in concert in Holland just a few days ago, last wednesday evening in Tilburg and last friday in Amsterdam. She was at her very best and will be greatly missed. As a son of South Africans living in exile during the dark days of apartheid i grew up with her music. In this clip, which i first posted 2 years ago, Miriam Makeba sings her most famous song Pata Pata during a performance in the VARA TV-studios in Holland, 1979. Joining her on stage towards the end of the song is her granddaughter Zenzi. Zenzi's mother (the late Bongi Makeba) is one of the backing vocalists (in the blue dress).

Miriam Makeba, or 'Mama Africa', the South African singer who wooed the world with her sultry voice, has died at the age of 76, leaving a great legacy behind. Al Jazeera's Dorsa Jabbari looks back at her life of struggle and achievement.

Ph.D.: Cerebral activation patterns induced by inflection of regular and irregular verbs with positron emission tomography. The findings of this thesis demonstrate that regular and irregular verbs are processed in the same neural network as opposed to separate cortical areas for regular and irregular verb inflection. This piece is subdivided into 3 sections: 1.) Introduction of regular verbs, 2.) Introduction of irregular verbs, 3.) Common neural network of regular and irregular verb inflection. 1.) Regular verbs are represented by the walking at the very beginning of this piece. The walking is simple, straight forward and without irregularities. It is accompanied by the sound of crackling fire a metaphor for the firing neurons. 2.) In contrast, irregular verbs are represented by a huge variety of different movements: jumps, slides, turns, rolls, level changes. Irregularities are also displayed musically by using syncopes and off-beat emphasis in percussion as well as further changes in instruments. 3.) The sound of the falling rain is a cleansing moment with no movements to introduce the final section of the dance: the common neural network of regular and irregular verb processing. It is the first time that symmetrical movements occur to emphasize the common network for both verb forms. In addition, both regular and irregular movements are shown to elucidate the presence of both entities in this network. Overall, fiber connections in the brain representing the connections between regular and irregular verbs are shown by wavy arm movements.

Miriam Makeba remembered - Singer decried hunger, violence and poverty 10 November, Rome The sudden death of South African singer and human rights activist Miriam Makeba, 76, has claimed the voice of one of FAOs most dedicated advocates, FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf said today. For nearly a decade, FAO Goodwill Ambassador Miriam Makeba was a strong supporter of FAOs fight to reduce hunger and improve the livelihoods of the worlds poorest people, FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf said on learning of Makebas death. Mama Africa spoke out against the violence, inequality and disease that kept many people, especially women and children, living in conditions of extreme poverty. We will miss her energy and her respectful concern for the worlds most vulnerable, Diouf said. Makeba had been an FAO Goodwill Ambassador since 1999. Over the years, she had participated in a long list of events and concerts organized by FAO, including performances to raise funds for FAO TeleFood projects in South Africa, Jamaica and Spain. Makeba was active in FAOs communications campaigns against hunger, both in interviews with the international news media and through public service announcements. In April 2001, Makeba visited FAO post-emergency projects in Mozambique, increasing the visibility and impact of FAOs activities in Africa. On her last official mission on behalf of FAO, in March 2008, Makeba travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo to visit FAO emergency projects designed to help survivors of violence and HIV positive women and men feed their families and revive their livelihoods through farming. Not one that is seen or heard very often. However it is very haunting and sung impeccably by Miriam. Live At Bern's Salonger is truly a great DVD of Miriam.

I have found out that there is two versions of Perfect Day, there is no difference in the lyric or anything. But it's a difference in sound and instruments. And this one sounds so much better! What I find sad is that this version is almost impossible to find! Video Audio: 128 KBPS - 44KHZ - STEREO
